While studying at the university one can experience a lot: a variety of student activities and programs, study exchanges abroad, field trips and internships in various companies and institutions in accordance with your focus of study. Currently, we would like to familiarize you with experience of our student, Monika Kubová, with the internship at prestigious Kempinski Hotel River Park Bratislava. Interview with Monika uncovers how the internship in hospitality sector operates in real life.
Monika, why did you decide to sign up for an interview for an internship at the Kempinski Hotel?
First of all, it was a challenge to participate in the selection procedure for interns, whether I go through or not. Today I can tell that it was the right decision. To try how is done in practice the hotel business at the highest level is a great life experience.
Monika, tell us in brief what´s your job description?
I’m an intern at the marketing department. Here is carried out preparation and sale of the hotel products. We prepare various product packages for various types of clients, for example weekend stays, events on various occasions (New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day, etc.).
Can you imagine that this work could be your future profession?
This is very creative work I can imagine it.
What did you like most about the internship at Kempinski hotel?
Team work and high professionalism of employees. I am happy I got into the environment where all communication is in English, as I always wanted to use English in my job and improve it.
How you are able to combine the stay in internship with your studying duties, are the teachers helpful?
I am very glad that the faculty has approved me the individual study plan. During exams period, teachers were ready to meet the individual terms because of my internship so far I have had no problem to combine studying in the faculty with the practise in internship.
How long will run your internship?
Originally I had an internship for 3 months, from the beginning of November 2014 to the end of January 2015, but at the end of January hotel management offered me the possibility of extending professional training until the end of June 2015.
Finally, what would you referring prospective students of Regional tourism? J
Live the active life. Nothing happens by chance. Take your chance if it exists, not letting it float away. Each experience is a step forward. This field of study opens the door to modern world, offers you to improve of languages….tourism is a “live” field of study with a great future.
