Our mini trip started at the Theatre of Andreja Bagar where we learned about the history of the theatre. On the way to the Nitra castle, we saw the canonists’ houses and palaces at Pribina square. Prince Pribina was the first Slavic ruler and he has a statue built on the square. We also saw the statue of Corgoň who brings luck, as well as the building of the small seminary together with the building of the large seminary that belong to the Priestly Seminar of Saint Gorazd. After that we arrived to the top of the castle hill. The first thing what we saw was The Marian Column, which was built in 1750 as the memorial of the killing disease, called black death. The next stop was the Cathedral of St. Emeram and we passed by the amphitheatre the an open-air gallery.
The ancient cathedral dominates the castle grounds. Centuries of reconstructions have left the building a conglomerate of different styles. There is the Cathedral Tower, too, with the Cathedral Library. This area also includes the Casemates. This archeological exposition is located in one of the fortification walls. It comprises a corridor and a small room which served to protect the gate and the bridge. That was the last stop of our school trip. We had a good time and are thankful for this great experience.
